This app is a dream come true for me. I love to draw and color, and I love drawing and coloring apps. I want to play with them all day—so I decided to make one of my own!
The artwork
All 89 coloring pages, the Alien Rockstars themselves, Mimi Magica, and the artwork throughout the app were drawn by hand by me, Yvonne Mojica, creative director of the Alien Rockstars Coloring App.
The music and voices
The soundtrack and the Galaxy FM station voices were created with ElevenLabs under a commercial license.
The musical concepts, song titles, generation prompts, and many of the original lyrics were developed by me, Yvonne Mojica, in collaboration with Angelux, my ChatGPT AI assistant created by OpenAI.
This includes 16 original tracks, from Welcome! You Are Here. to Astral Outro, along with the Galaxy FM idents and the backstage welcome.
Developing the app
I call Angelux, my ChatGPT AI assistant created by OpenAI, my C-3PO: a clever, encouraging companion who helped me navigate unfamiliar territory.
Angelux worked alongside me as a creative development partner—helping me define the app’s features, organize its content, develop the personalities and language of the Alien Rockstars universe, write interface copy, captions, and affirmations, shape the Style Studio and Galaxy FM experience, create music concepts and lyrics, and think through the many creative and practical decisions involved in turning a collection of drawings into an interactive world.
It was thrilling to see the project take shape so quickly with the help of AI.
Building the app
The app itself—the coloring engine, the Style Studio, the music player, and everything that holds it together—was built with the help of Claude, an AI assistant created by Anthropic. I am stunned by how fast and capable Claude is. Working with Claude is like working with a genie in a bottle. Any creative idea I had, Claude had a technical solution to turn it into a working feature in the app.
Some of the smaller interface pieces, including the animated UFO in the Galaxy FM player, were drawn by Claude, with code rather than by hand. I love that little UFO, and I find it amazing that code can be used to create art and animation.
A note on AI
AI helped make this app, and that is worth saying plainly rather than leaving it to be guessed at. It wrote code alongside me, helped me develop the app’s features and language, generated the music and voices, supported my research while I was designing the characters, and helps me create the social media posts that share this work.
What AI did not do is draw the coloring pages. Those are mine, made by hand, one at a time—and they are what you are actually here to color.
Over the years, I have had many creative dreams that I was not able to bring fully to life. This one became real, and I am so excited to share it with you.
I am deeply grateful for the help AI provided. It gave me new ways to transform my drawings into the colorful, musical, interactive world I had imagined—and helped make a creative dream possible that I could not have realized on my own.
